Benefits: Journal of Economics and Tourism (Benefits-JET)
Website: https://jurnal.sinesia.id/index.php/Benefits-JET/index
1. Publication Ethics Statement
Benefits: Journal of Economics and Tourism (Benefits-JET) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics, academic integrity, transparency, and responsible scholarly communication. The journal expects all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher, to uphold principles of honesty, fairness, accountability, confidentiality, and respect for intellectual property.
This publication ethics policy is guided by the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association (OASPA), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), as well as relevant COPE guidance on publication misconduct and editorial responsibilities.
Benefits-JET applies these principles to all manuscripts submitted for consideration, including research articles, review articles, conceptual papers, bibliometric studies, and case studies. Editorial decisions are based on scholarly merit, originality, methodological rigor, relevance to the journal's scope, and compliance with ethical standards, regardless of the authors' nationality, institutional affiliation, gender, religion, political views, or other personal characteristics.
2. Responsibilities of Authors
Authors submitting manuscripts to Benefits-JET must comply with the following ethical requirements:
-
Originality and originality of work: Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts represent original scholarly work and that all ideas, data, quotations, and findings derived from other sources are properly acknowledged and cited.
-
Exclusive submission: A manuscript submitted to Benefits-JET must not be under consideration by another journal or publisher at the same time. Authors must disclose any related manuscripts or publications that may constitute substantial overlap.
-
Accuracy of research: Authors must present research findings accurately and must not fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or selectively omit data in a manner that misrepresents the research.
-
Authorship and contributorship: Authorship must be limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual or scholarly contributions to the research, participated in drafting or critically revising the manuscript, approved the final version, and accepted accountability for the work.
-
Acknowledgment of contributions: Individuals who have contributed to the research but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged appropriately, with their consent where applicable.
-
Disclosure of funding: Authors must disclose all sources of financial support, institutional funding, sponsorship, and other material assistance relevant to the research.
-
Conflict of interest: Authors must disclose financial, professional, personal, or institutional relationships that could reasonably be perceived to influence their research or its interpretation.
-
Research ethics compliance: Authors must comply with applicable ethical, legal, and institutional requirements, particularly when research involves human participants, personal data, vulnerable populations, confidential information, or other ethically sensitive materials.
-
Corrections after publication: Authors must promptly inform the editorial office if they discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work and cooperate in the correction or retraction process when necessary.
-
Compliance with editorial decisions: Authors must respond to reviewers' comments professionally, provide reasoned responses, and revise their manuscripts when required.
3. Responsibilities of Editors
The Editor-in-Chief, handling editors, and editorial board members are responsible for ensuring the integrity, fairness, and academic quality of the journal's publication process.
Editors shall:
-
Evaluate manuscripts according to their academic quality, originality, relevance, methodological soundness, and contribution to the journal's aims and scope.
-
Make editorial decisions independently and impartially, without discrimination or inappropriate influence from authors, institutions, sponsors, advertisers, or other external parties.
-
Ensure that manuscripts are assessed through the journal's established peer-review process.
-
Maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and all information obtained during editorial handling.
-
Identify and appropriately address suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated or falsified data, citation manipulation, authorship disputes, and other forms of research misconduct.
-
Disclose and manage any conflicts of interest that could affect editorial judgment and, where necessary, transfer responsibility to an independent editor.
-
Avoid using unpublished information from submitted manuscripts for personal research or professional advantage without the author's explicit written permission.
-
Provide clear reasons for editorial decisions and ensure that authors have access to an appropriate appeals procedure.
-
Publish corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions when warranted to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.
-
Periodically review editorial policies to ensure consistency with recognized publication ethics standards.
The Editor-in-Chief retains responsibility for the final publication decision, taking into account reviewer recommendations, editorial assessments, and the journal's publication policies.
4. Responsibilities of Reviewers
Benefits-JET uses a double-blind peer-review process to support objective and independent evaluation of submitted manuscripts.
Reviewers are expected to:
-
Accept review assignments only when they possess appropriate subject expertise and can complete the review within the agreed timeframe.
-
Treat manuscripts and review materials as confidential documents and not share, reproduce, or distribute them without authorization.
-
Evaluate manuscripts objectively, fairly, and constructively, providing clear comments supported by scholarly reasoning.
-
Assess the originality, methodological rigor, validity of analysis, relevance of references, quality of argumentation, and contribution of the manuscript.
-
Identify relevant published work that has not been properly cited and inform the editor of any substantial similarity to other publications.
-
Disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest and decline the assignment when impartiality may reasonably be questioned.
-
Refrain from using unpublished information, data, or ideas obtained through peer review for personal or professional benefit.
-
Avoid personal criticism, discriminatory language, and requests for citations that are irrelevant or intended primarily to increase citation counts.
-
Inform the editor of any suspected ethical violations, including plagiarism, data fabrication, duplicate submission, or inappropriate authorship practices.
-
Provide recommendations based on scholarly merit rather than personal preferences or institutional relationships.
Reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts or identifiable research data to public or third-party artificial intelligence systems without appropriate authorization and safeguards.
5. Peer-Review Policy
All research manuscripts submitted to Benefits-JET undergo an initial editorial screening to assess their suitability for the journal, originality, formatting, research quality, and compliance with publication ethics requirements.
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process involving at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise.
The editorial decision may be:
-
Accept without further revision.
-
Accept subject to minor revisions.
-
Require major revisions and further evaluation.
-
Reject the manuscript.
The final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief or an appropriately authorized editor. Reviewer recommendations inform but do not automatically determine the editorial decision.
The journal does not guarantee acceptance or publication within a predetermined period. Review timelines may vary according to reviewer availability, manuscript complexity, and the extent of revisions required.
Any exceptions to the standard peer-review procedure must be transparently disclosed, including the nature of the exception and the review process applied.
6. Plagiarism, Duplicate Publication, and Research Misconduct
Benefits-JET does not tolerate plagiarism, self-plagiarism involving undisclosed substantial reuse, redundant publication, duplicate submission, data fabrication, data falsification, inappropriate image or data manipulation, citation manipulation, or other forms of research misconduct.
All submissions may be screened using plagiarism-detection software or other appropriate similarity-checking tools. Similarity reports are evaluated contextually by the editorial team; a similarity percentage alone does not determine whether plagiarism has occurred.
Authors must properly cite and acknowledge the work of others. Reuse of previously published material must be appropriately disclosed and comply with applicable copyright and licensing requirements.
If suspected misconduct is identified, the journal may:
-
Request an explanation, original data, research documentation, or other relevant evidence from the authors.
-
Suspend the editorial process while the matter is investigated.
-
Reject the manuscript if serious ethical violations are established.
-
Notify the relevant institution, research organization, funder, or other appropriate authority when warranted.
-
Publish a correction, expression of concern, or retraction for an already published article, depending on the nature and seriousness of the misconduct.
All allegations shall be assessed fairly, confidentially, and in accordance with applicable COPE guidance. Authors will normally be given an opportunity to respond before a final determination is made, except where immediate action is necessary to protect the scholarly record or comply with legal obligations.
7. Authorship, Acknowledgments, and Changes in Authorship
All listed authors must meet recognized authorship criteria and agree to the submission and publication of the manuscript.
The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all eligible contributors are appropriately credited, all listed authors have approved the submitted version, and all authors agree to the final version before publication.
Individuals who contributed to funding acquisition, technical assistance, data collection, administrative support, or other activities without meeting the authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately.
Requests to add, remove, or rearrange authors after submission must include a written explanation and confirmation from all affected authors. The journal may suspend processing until the authorship issue has been resolved. Changes after publication require a formal editorial assessment and may result in a published correction.
Ghost authorship, gift authorship, honorary authorship, and the omission of eligible contributors are unacceptable.
8. Conflicts of Interest and Funding Disclosure
Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose relationships or interests that may influence, or reasonably appear to influence, the conduct, interpretation, review, or publication of research.
Potential conflicts include financial interests, employment, consultancy, personal relationships, institutional affiliations, competing research activities, intellectual property interests, and relevant political or commercial relationships.
Authors must provide a conflict-of-interest statement and disclose research funding, including the role of the funder in study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, and the decision to submit the work for publication.
If no relevant conflict exists, authors should state: "The authors declare no conflict of interest."
Editors and reviewers with a conflict of interest must recuse themselves from the relevant decision or review. Where necessary, an independent editor or reviewer will be appointed.
Editorial decisions shall not be influenced by funding sources, author fees, sponsorship, advertising, or commercial interests.
9. Research Ethics and Ethical Oversight
Research involving human participants, surveys, interviews, personal information, or other ethically sensitive materials must comply with applicable laws, institutional policies, and recognized ethical standards.
Where required, authors must obtain approval from an appropriate research ethics committee or institutional review board before conducting the research and provide the approval body, reference number, and date in the manuscript.
Authors must also document informed consent where applicable, protect participant confidentiality, and explain how personal data were collected, stored, processed, and protected.
Research involving vulnerable populations requires appropriate safeguards. Authors must demonstrate that participation was voluntary, risks were appropriately managed, and participants' rights and welfare were protected.
For studies that do not require formal ethics approval under applicable institutional or national rules, authors should explain the basis for the exemption when relevant. The journal reserves the right to request supporting documentation.
The editorial team may reject manuscripts when ethical safeguards are inadequate or when research practices violate applicable ethical or legal requirements.
10. Data Availability, Transparency, and Reproducibility
Benefits-JET encourages responsible data sharing, research transparency, and reproducibility, subject to legal restrictions, confidentiality obligations, participant consent, intellectual property rights, and ethical considerations.
Authors should provide a data availability statement indicating whether the data supporting the findings are publicly available, available upon reasonable request, restricted for ethical or legal reasons, or unavailable.
Where appropriate, authors are encouraged to deposit research data, instruments, analytical procedures, code, and supplementary materials in reliable repositories and provide persistent identifiers or accessible links.
Authors must not fabricate, falsify, or deliberately misrepresent research data. Editors may request supporting data, methodological documentation, or other materials necessary to assess the validity of the reported findings.
Data must not be disclosed when doing so would violate privacy, confidentiality, contractual obligations, or applicable law.
11. Use of Artificial Intelligence and AI-Assisted Technologies
Benefits-JET recognizes that artificial intelligence and generative AI tools may support language editing, organization of ideas, and other research-related tasks. Their use must remain consistent with academic integrity, transparency, and accountability.
Authors may use AI-assisted tools for appropriate purposes, provided that:
-
The use of AI is disclosed when it materially contributes to manuscript preparation, analysis, or other relevant aspects of the research.
-
Authors verify all AI-assisted content, including facts, citations, calculations, interpretations, and conclusions.
-
AI tools are not listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume scholarly accountability.
-
AI tools are not used to fabricate research data, invent references, misrepresent findings, or conceal plagiarism.
-
Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, integrity, and ethical compliance of the submitted work.
A suitable disclosure statement is:
"During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [name of AI tool] for [describe the specific purpose]. The author(s) critically reviewed and edited the AI-assisted content and take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the final manuscript."
AI tools must not replace the authors' substantive scholarly contribution, critical interpretation, or responsibility for research findings.
Editors and reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts, unpublished research, or sensitive personal data to public AI systems or other unauthorized third-party services. AI-assisted tools must not replace independent editorial judgment or expert peer review.
12. Intellectual Property, Copyright, and Licensing
Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts do not infringe the intellectual property rights of others. All third-party text, images, tables, figures, instruments, and other protected materials must be appropriately acknowledged and used with permission where required.
Copyright ownership, publication rights, and the applicable open-access license shall be governed by the journal's separately published copyright and licensing policies. Authors are responsible for complying with the terms of the applicable license.
The journal will address allegations of copyright infringement, unauthorized reuse, and other intellectual property violations promptly and fairly. Where necessary, the publication may be corrected, restricted, or retracted in accordance with the circumstances and applicable policies.
13. Complaints and Appeals
Benefits-JET provides a transparent procedure for handling complaints and appeals relating to editorial decisions, peer-review conduct, publication ethics, authorship, conflicts of interest, and other matters associated with the journal.
Complaints should be submitted in writing to the editorial office with a clear explanation of the issue and any relevant supporting evidence.
The journal will:
-
Acknowledge and assess complaints within a reasonable period.
-
Review the relevant editorial records and evidence objectively.
-
Refer the matter to an independent editor or appropriate authority when the complaint concerns the Editor-in-Chief or another decision-maker with a potential conflict of interest.
-
Provide a reasoned response when the assessment is completed.
-
Maintain confidentiality to the extent possible while ensuring a fair investigation.
Authors may appeal an editorial decision by explaining specific factual errors, procedural irregularities, or substantive concerns that may have affected the decision. An appeal must not be based solely on disagreement with a legitimate editorial judgment.
The journal's decision following an appeal will be final within its internal editorial process, without prejudice to any applicable external rights or institutional procedures.
14. Corrections, Expressions of Concern, and Retractions
Benefits-JET is committed to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the published scholarly record.
Corrections may be issued when an article contains errors that can be remedied without invalidating its central findings or conclusions.
Expressions of concern may be published when credible allegations of serious misconduct or substantial unreliability arise but cannot yet be resolved conclusively.
Retractions may be issued when there is clear evidence that an article's findings are unreliable because of significant error, fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, unethical research, duplicate publication, or other serious breaches of publication ethics.
Retractions and corrections will be clearly identified, linked to the original article, and accompanied by an explanation of the reason for the editorial action. Retraction notices will preserve transparency and will not be used to conceal legitimate criticism or disagreement.
The journal will follow applicable COPE guidance when determining the appropriate action and will maintain the scholarly record in a transparent manner.
15. Post-Publication Discussion
Benefits-JET welcomes responsible scholarly discussion and constructive criticism of published work. Readers may submit comments, concerns, or evidence relating to the accuracy, methodology, interpretation, or ethical integrity of published articles.
Submissions will be assessed by the editorial team for relevance, evidence, scholarly merit, and compliance with ethical standards. Authors of the article concerned may be invited to respond.
Where justified, the journal may publish a formal response, correction, expression of concern, or retraction. All post-publication actions shall be conducted fairly and transparently.
16. Publisher Responsibilities and Editorial Independence
The publisher supports the editorial team in maintaining the journal's academic quality, publication ethics, and long-term integrity.
The publisher and editorial team are responsible for maintaining transparent journal policies, safeguarding publication records, providing accurate journal information, and addressing credible allegations of misconduct.
Editorial decisions are independent of commercial interests, author payments, sponsorship, advertising, institutional pressure, and other financial considerations.
Any publication fees, waiver provisions, funding arrangements, advertising policies, or other revenue sources must be disclosed through the journal's relevant policy pages. Such arrangements must not influence peer review or editorial decisions.
The journal will take reasonable measures to preserve published content and maintain access to the scholarly record in accordance with its digital preservation and archiving policies.
17. Ethical Compliance and Enforcement
All authors, reviewers, editors, and other parties participating in the publication process are expected to comply with this statement.
Failure to comply may result in rejection of a manuscript, suspension of review, withdrawal of acceptance, correction or retraction of a published article, notification of relevant institutions, or other proportionate action consistent with the seriousness of the violation.
Benefits-JET reserves the right to request supporting documents, investigate credible allegations, and take appropriate measures to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.
This policy applies to all submissions and published content handled by the journal, including regular issues, special issues, and other scholarly content subject to the journal's editorial procedures.
18. Policy Review and Updates
Benefits-JET periodically reviews this Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement to ensure continued alignment with recognized international publication ethics standards, relevant legal requirements, and developments in scholarly publishing.
The journal may update this policy when necessary. Revised policies will be made publicly available on the journal's website, with the effective date indicated where appropriate.
