Analysis of the Effectiveness of Guidance and Counseling Services in Shaping Students’ Character at SMPN 2 Telukjambe

Abstract

This research is motivated by the increasing number of character issues in students within the school environment, such as low discipline, lack of responsibility, and behavior that does not reflect social values. This situation highlights the importance of Guidance and Counseling (BK) services in supporting more targeted and sustainable character development in students. This study aims to describe the effectiveness of BK services in shaping student character at SMPN 2 Telukjambe. The study used a qualitative descriptive approach, with one BK teacher and two ninth-grade students selected purposively because they had participated in BK services. Data were obtained through observation and semi-structured interviews, then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that BK services are implemented in a structured manner through classical guidance, individual counseling, and character development activities integrated with religious programs. Collaboration between BK teachers, Islamic Religious Education teachers, homeroom teachers, and parents is a key supporting factor in shaping student character. However, challenges remain in detecting student problems that are not directly visible, necessitating increased counselor sensitivity and strengthening early detection strategies.

Tiara Khaerani Hasibuan, Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang, West Java, Indonesia

Tiara Khaerani Hasibuan was born in Tangerang on August 22, 2006, to Edi Musa Hasibuan and Enni Rohati Nasution. She studied Islamic Religious Education. Her interest in education, particularly Islamic Religious Education, drives her to be active in academic and personal development activities on campus and in Islamic boarding schools. Her interests include Islamic education studies, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teaching in schools, and developing learning methods relevant to the needs of today's students.

Yandi Maulana, Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang, West Java, Indonesia

Yandi Maulana was born in Cianjur on February 2, 2004. I am currently a student at Singaperbangsa University, Karawang, majoring in the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Study Program. My interest in education and Islamic studies began in high school, when I began to realize that religious knowledge is not only a guide to life but also a crucial foundation for building character and civilization.

Zulfa Telian Ristamala, Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang, West Java, Indonesia

Zulfa Telian Ristamala, daughter of Jamaludin and Ita Yumita, was born on June 28, 2004, in Karawang. At the Faculty of Islamic Studies, she majored in Islamic Religious Education, reflecting her deep interest in religion and education. She is determined to develop her skills as a professional educator capable of integrating Islamic values ​​with modern education and contributing to the formation of a generation with noble character and broad knowledge.

Siti Atiqoh, Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang, West Java, Indonesia

Siti Atiqoh, born in Jakarta on March 20, 2005. Currently majoring in Islamic Religious Education. I have a strong interest in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teaching in schools, especially how to tailor teaching methods to the needs of today's students. Through organizational activities, studies, and learning experiences on campus, I continue to learn to become a better person. My hope is that one day I can become a useful educator and be able to make a real contribution to the world of education.
